Samuel Mikes serves as the 2020-2021 Central Region Area 6 Venturing President. Sam is 17 years old and a member of Crew 150 based out of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Cincinnati OH. He has been an active member of the Scouting organization for seven years, and has been involved with his current Crew for two years. He is also a member of Troop 150, also based out of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Sam serves as the President for the Crew and as an Instructor for the Troop. Sam is a Colerain High School 2020 graduate who plans on attending Miami University in the fall with a major in Music Education and a minor in Psychology. He has been a part of the Colerain High School Marching Band for five years where he served as the Horn Sergeant his Junior year and Drum Major his Senior year. Sam hopes to establish lasting connections with council VOAs as well as a more active and thriving VOA community in Area 6. He can not wait to start and is very excited for this amazing opportunity.
Elijah Wiswell serves as the 2020-2021 Central Region Area 6 Venturing Vice President of Administration. Elijah is from LaSalle Council and lives in Elkhart, Indiana. He is a founding member of Crew 727, and serves as an assistant scoutmaster for Scouts BSA Troops 1 and 7. He has previously served as Crew Secretary and currently serves as Crew President. In addition to being an Eagle Scout, Elijah is currently working towards earning the Summit award. He participated in the 2017 National Scout Jamboree as part of Operation Arrow’s Service Corps. He spends his summers staffing at Wood Lake Scout Reservation. Since joining Venturing, he has completed his Wood Badge ticket, National Leadership Seminar, Goal Setting and Time Management, Crew Officers Orientation, Personal Safety Awareness Training, ILSC, and is a Level 2 Instructor for USA Archery. Elijah is currently in the process of attending Sea Badge, which he hopes will further refine his leadership skills to better help Venturing and it’s participants. Elijah is currently attending Ivy Tech Community College as a freshman where he is studying supply chain management. He is also active with the college’s accounting club. Elijah’s goals include developing digital crew training programs, work with other areas to create inter-area events, and building working relationships with crews through council VOAs.
Dylan Brossart serves as the 2020-2021 Central Region Area 6 Venturing Vice President of Program. Dylan is currently 17 years old and is a member of crew 727 out of Burlington, Kentucky. He has been devoted to scouting since he was a tiger scout. He is part of troop 727 out of Burlington, Kentucky as well. He is currently serving as president of his crew and has been a member for 2 years. He is a junior at Covington Catholic high school and he is also on the archery and bass fishing team. His goals include planning fun and exciting events and helpful trainings for crews as well as helping the Area president in any way he can.
Emily Long serves as the 2020-2021 Central Region Area 6 Venturing Vice President of Communications. Emily is the incoming Vice President of Communications for Area 6. This year makes three years of service to the Area VOA. Last year she was V.P. Administration and this year is her second time in Communications. Emily is in Crew 593 and is working toward her Summit and Eagle as a Pathfinder and Life Scout. Emily has received her Quest and Ranger award. She staffed Gerber Scout Reservation in 2019 and plans to staff Tomahawk Scout Reservation in 2020. This past summer she went to NAYLE and staffed NYLT. She went to Wood Badge last fall and will be attending Michigan Technological University this August to study Environmental Science.
Anne Zimmer serves as the Central Region Area 6 Venturing Advisor. Anne is part of the Dan Beard Council. She has held many positions within her district and council. She is currently Cubmaster to Pack 150, Committee Chairman to Troop 150, and Advisor to Crew 150. She was a Program Manager for the Dan Beard Council’s Scout REACH program for 7 years. Anne has been involved in Scouting for 25 years, and has been a part of Venturing since 2008. She loved her Powderhorn experience. She has been to Philmont with both her Troop and Crew and to Sea Base with her Crew. She was Cub Day Camp Director and Wood Badge Course Director in 2013. She is currently serving on NYLT as a Scoutmaster for one of five weeks in the Dan Beard Council. Scouting started as a hobby for her, it is now a major lifestyle for her and her family.
Dave Broekers serves as the Central Region Area 6 Venturing Associate Advisor of Administration. Dave is currently serving with the Crossroads of America Council in Indianapolis. Joining Cub Scouting over 40 years ago on a whim, it was crossing over to a small truly youth-led troop that sealed the deal for him and he’s been hooked on Scouting ever since. Dave is an Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor, and Silver Beaver recipient. He has been a Wood Badge course director, University of Scouting chancellor, Powder Horn consultant, and Philmont Leadership Challenge staff member. He has been the primary advisor for 6 Kodiak courses (along with 3 of the retired Kodiak X courses) and a crew advisor for the 2013 National Jamboree. Dave enjoys his current positions as a crew associate Advisor and member of the Council Properties Committee, but he has also held several other Scouting positions including District Commissioner, District Chair, and Council Training Chair. He is eager to serve in this role to help Venturers strengthen their program.
